My Relationship with Media

Media has played a huge role in my life since I was a little kid. It is all around the world, from the roadside to our homes, media is there. Since media is so present in our life, it is often easy to forget that media affects all of us.
As a child watching Nickelodeon and Disney Channel I would be exposed to countless commercials and shows that were selling one product or another. Today I am just as exposed and just as influenced by the media. Instagram and TV that are present everywhere are the biggest influence I have. Watching TV I see ideas that influence my perception of the world. Scrolling through Instagram there are an insane number of ads and people trying to sell their product. Of course, when I see these I am tempted to buy things that I definitely do not need, which is one of the downsides to media. Media often uses people who are in perfect shape and absolutely flawless. This, of course, makes any consumer think that they also need to have this perfect appearance, which is yet another downside of media that many people, myself included, feel the impact of.
Television is a very powerful form of media. TV has the power to incorporate ideas into the show, then these ideas are consumed by the population and they begin to see the good or the bad in it. Movies like Captain Marvel have great influences on the population through the use of ideas in the movie. Captain Marvel's trailers used very strong feminist scenes in order to attract people who shared those ideas. Movies that use positive ideas like Captain Marvel has, help people feel more comfortable and secure in who they are, which is a very positive aspect of the media.
It is hard for me to say whether media has been positive or negative in my life. The downsides and upsides I have already mentioned are both a strong part of how media works in my life. Yet, I do not know if I could say that media is just bad or good. I believe that media has the power to do a lot f good for people, yet it is common that media is used to get money. Media has a lot of power to do good, yet it often veers toward a negative impact on the general population.
