Inaccuracies in Advertisements

I was at Target this week and I glanced at the board with all the coupons and printed advertisements, I noticed how many people in the pictures had the most fake smiles, the most unrealistic expressions for the action they are doing. For example, the image above is much like one of the ads I saw. I have never seen someone intensely working out, like in this ad, and smiling without a single drop of sweat or exhaustion in their face. Seeing this gave me the idea to write about the many advertisements that have unrealistic and inaccurate portrayals of the consumer.
Ads for feminine products are the most unrealistic and inaccurate ads I have ever seen. They always show a woman running, dancing, or doing some sort of physical activity while they wear the product advertised. These women are smiling and laughing, they look as happy as can be. This is the complete opposite of the reality. Most women are miserable when they have to buy these products, they are embarrassed to buy them, and they often hate the reasons behind their need to buy feminine products. I understand that it is hard to make an ad for something like feminine products, especially when most people are uncomfortable talking about their use. In my opinion however, it would be better to express the ugly truth and make women more comfortable with themselves and their biology than cover it up with happy women who can be happy because she is using a certain product.
Before I started watching all my shows on Netflix and Hulu I saw ads all the time. The most confusing ones were when there would be a happy family shopping at the store, they are all happy to be buying milk or to be getting their mac and cheese. Maybe it is just me, but going to the store with my parents is absolutely exhausting, and I don't think I have ever happily gone to the store just to buy milk or cheese. It is the store, and a chore for the majority of people. This is just another example of an unrealistic pattern in advertising that misleads the consumer. The advertisers try to use these tactics to persuade people that if they buy this product then they will love going to the store too.
In conclusion, I am tired of seeing ads that portray an unrealistic version of the reality. It may be difficult to get the consumer interested in a product like feminine products or milk, yet giving these false realities in advertisements does nothing but mislead us. Maybe it is time advertisements become more realistic, sometimes that is more appealing to the public than seeing a misleading and unrelatable ad.
